February 2016 – The 2016 Python Challenge ends this weekend (Sunday February 14). The capture count as of Thursday: 102 snakes. After 30 days of searching, that works out to be about one snake for every 10 hunters (about 1,000 people participated this year), proving once again how hard it is to catch a python in the Everglades.
Here’s one story from this year’s hunt that illustrates the challenges of the Challenge, posted by Popular Science magazine: http://www.popsci.com/snake-hunt
UPDATE: The final head count for this year’s challenge, as of February 27: 106 snakes.
