FLORIDA BAY STEWARDSHIP FUND
The Florida Bay Stewardship Fund of the South Florida National Parks Trust was established to provide a sustainable source of private funding for resource protection programs in Florida Bay. The fund is focused on four critical areas:
Education & Outreach
Research & Science
A New General Management Plan for Florida Bay
Everglades National Park recently completed a major milestone with final approval of a new General Management Plan (GMP) that will shape how the park is experienced and enjoyed by more than 100,000 boaters and fishermen each year.
The plan, approved in late 2015, will provide better access to Florida Bay and other park waters while providing enhanced protection for the park’s marine resources.
The park is now seeking to implement a key element of the new plan – an enhanced network of navigational corridors that will provide boaters with better access to the shallow waters of Florida Bay.
The South Florida National Parks Trust has launched a fundraising effort to support this initiative.
Donations made to the Florida Bay Stewardship Fund of the Trust will allow the park to move quickly to establish a new network of navigational corridors and deliver on the plan’s promise of enhanced boater access.
With the support of outside donors the park can also integrate the delivery of this improved access with the introduction of new educational products and electronic navigational tools, ensuring a comprehensive strategy to promote increased knowledge and understanding of the changes being implemented as part of the GMP.
About The Florida Bay Stewardship Fund
The Florida Bay Stewardship Fund provides a source of private funding for resource protection programs in Florida Bay while seeking to educate boaters and the public at large about the fragile nature of the bay and damage done to seagrass beds by frequent boat groundings and propeller scars.
The stewardship fund builds on the success of the Florida Bay Resource Protection Program – an initiative launched in 2005 to protect Florida Bay through education, enhanced law enforcement and science.
The initiative invested more than $1 million over five years to establish boater education programs, place more rangers on the water, install signs to protect habitat and wildlife, and study boating patterns and the condition of seagrass beds in Florida Bay.
The Florida Bay Stewardship Fund builds on those accomplishments while providing more opportunities for the public to participate.
The South Florida National Parks Trust accepts donations from individuals, corporations and foundations to support Florida Bay programs and projects.
Thank you for your interest and support!
