New Photography Exhibit in Biscayne National Park Gallery Kicks Off 15-Month Golden Anniversary Celebration
A new photography exhibit opens in Biscayne National Park’s Dante Fascell Visitor Center Gallery on October 18, kicking off a 15- month long celebration of the park’s 50th anniversary in 2018. Celebration! Photography from the New Book “Biscayne National Park” features contemporary photos of the park by one of the book’s authors, Kirsten Hines. The show runs through January 14, 2018. The gallery is open daily from 9 – 5, and an opening reception with food, drink, a book signing and an opportunity to meet the photographer and her co-author Jim Kushlan will take place on Sunday, October 22 from 1-3 pm.
Admission to the show and the reception is free.
In their new book Biscayne National Park, Kirsten Hines and James A. Kushlan capture in words and images the story of the Park from before its European discovery in the 1500s, to its designation as a national monument in 1968, to now. For the last 50 years the Park has protected the bulk of Biscayne Bay, its Caribbean-style limestone islands topped with tropical forest, its coral reefs, its wildlife, its remnants of a rich human history and its recreational opportunities that continue to attract half a million visitors a year. This exhibit celebrates Biscayne National Park’s golden 50-year anniversary with a selection of Kirsten’s photographs from the book to show the Park as it is today.
Celebration! is part of the park’s Community Artists Program, started in 1997 as an outlet for the works of artists who are inspired by the beauty of Biscayne National Park.
